Increasing Waste Diversion - Beyond Recycling
Join Reagan Bissonnette and Bonnie Bethune of the Northeast Resource Recovery Association for a workshop on decreasing the amount of solid waste being sent to landfills and incinerators. This workshop hosted by NHDES will cover waste diversion and why it is important, how communities can calculate their waste diversion rates, and specific strategies and examples of how New Hampshire municipalities can reduce their waste. Strategies will include compacting construction and demolition debris, composting, pay as you throw programs, resident education, swap shops, and textile bins. The workshop will also include small group discussion sessions where attendees will have an opportunity to share information with one another.
Note: This workshop will not focus on recycling, as this will be covered in a NHDES workshop in June.
