Recycling Education Keynote & Vendor Discussion Panel

April 22, 2025
Keynote Speakers 2025 Recycling Conference

NRRA's Recycling Conference highlights new, engaging, and current recycling and solid waste management topics and practices that help transfer stations, recycling centers, and municipalities manage their recycling facilities in environmentally and economically sound ways.

The conference is a unique opportunity for hundreds of solid waste operators, volunteers, and residents to participate in workshops and meet experts in recycling, composting, municipal solid waste, and more. This year's conference is focused on specific recyclables, such as batteries, mattresses, used oil, plastics, and glass, while also taking a 30,000-foot-view of the recycling industry as a whole. Our Monday and Tuesday keynotes will speak to both, with a focus on the bigger picture of recycling education on Monday and the nitty-gritty of moving materials with a panel of recycling vendors on Tuesday.

*Tuesday attendees will also be in for a special surprise from NRRA...but you'll have to be there to learn more!

Keynote Details:

On Monday, we will hear from Alec Cooley, Senior Advisor at Busch Systems, who has worked in the recycling field for over three decades. Alec's experience includes managing recycling and waste reduction programs for Humboldt State University in Northern California, as a program manager for the National Recycling Coalition, and as a director of recycling programs for the national office of Keep America Beautiful. In his current role with Busch Systems, Alec produces best practices content for recycling and waste reduction professionals. Alec will be joined by Andrea Folsom, NRRA's Education & Grants Manager, in a sit-down discussion moderated by Executive Director, Reagan Bissonnette, to talk about how national best practices and NRRA's Recycle Right North Country initiative overlap, and how transfer stations of any size can improve their resident recycling outreach and impact.

On Tuesday, we will be joined by three vendors who work with NRRA members: Eds Harding of Harding Metals (metal recycling), Joe Whitten of Apparel Impact (textile recycling), and Tim Maloof of Interstate Refrigerant Recovery, Inc. (freon capture and recycling).

While we all know recycling really does happen, we don't often we get a peek behind the curtain to learn exactly how it is done! This panel discussion will look at the ins and outs of three distinct recycling streams - metal, textiles, and freon - the challenges each recycling stream faces, and a look into the crystal ball as to what the future may hold in these uncertain times.

Conference registration is currently open (Register by Friday, May 9th to avoid the walk-in conference rates). Join hundreds of attendees, speakers, sponsors, and exhibitors to focus exclusively on municipal recycling and waste reduction in New England.
